For over 150 years, the Pawtucket Fire Department has protected the lives and properties of the residents of Pawtucket. Currently the department responds to over 17,000 calls a year. In addition to fire fighting the department handles emergency medical services, hazardous material situations, and many other types of issues that may threaten lives and properties.

Department Organization

The department staffs six engines, two ladders and four rescues, stationed throughout the city. Each shift is under the command of a battalion chief.

The Fire Prevention Bureau handles the inspections, investigations and fire prevention activities of the department.

The Training Division is responsible for in-service training and education of the department’s fire fighters. It also is tasked with fire fighter safety on a fire scene and handles the ordering of firefighting gear and equipment.

The Emergency Medical Division, which is led by a rescue chief and rescue director, oversees the department’s emergency medical services. The city’s rescues operate at the Advance Life Support level with care provided by EMT-Cardiacs and Paramedics.
