The 2010 Census is a joint venture between the U.S. Department of Commerce and the City of Pawtucket.
The U.S. Constitution requires that a national census be taken every 10 years. The 2010 Census will affect political representation and direct allocation of billions of dollars in government funding.
2010 Census Timeline
Spring, 2009
Census employees go door to door to update address list nationwide.
Fall, 2009
Recruitment for census takers begins.
Feb. – Mar, 2010
Census questionnaires are mailed and delivered to households.
April 1, 2010
National Census Day
April – Jul.,2010
Census takers visit households that did not return questioner by mail.
December, 2010
Census Bureau delivers population counts to President.
