Call for Pawtucket Artists: Showcase Your Work on PawtucketARTSaAGRAM

Pawtucket – The Pawtucket Advisory Commission on Arts & Culture (PACAC) seeks submissions from visual and performing artists either living or working in the city of Pawtucket to highlight on its new Instagram page, PawtucketARTSaAGRAM. This new arts initiative seeks to highlight the City’s artistic and creative talent on Instagram, a visual platform that allows the sharing of text, images and videos with their audience.

“As the first anniversary of the emergence of the COVID pandemic approaches, it was obvious to us that Instagram would allow us to bring arts virtually into a person’s home,” says PACAC’s Miriam R. Plitt, noting that galleries, art studies, artistic venues were forced to shutter their doors. Arts festivals were cancelled forcing organizers to seek other ways to bring artist together to show and sell their work.

Plitt calls the Pawtucket’s artist community to take the opportunity to upload favorite pieces of artwork on PawtucketARTSaAGRAM and become part of this existing artistic initiative. “Over the last 20 years, art is important to the economy and life of our community. Art has become the soul of the city,” she says.

“The vision for creating PACAC’s Instagram page emerged through the efforts of Advisory Commission members, Gina Dispirito, Amy Gravell, Miriam Plitt, and City Planner Jay Rosa,” says Mayor Donald R. Grebien. “With Pawtucket’s burgeoning arts community, I look forward to seeing a number of images over the next few months showcasing our extremely talented artists on this popular visual platform.”.

Eric J. Auger, of Ten 31 productions is one of dozens of artists showcased by PawtucketARTSaAGRAM. “We can tell our story, while sharing our inspirations and creative processes which brings us closer together in the community,” he says.

Artist Nancy Katz of Wilmark Studios art making and stained glass said, “as a newcomer with a studio in Pawtucket this provides a way of connecting to the community.”

Local artists currently participating in the City’s PawtucketARTSaGRAM include: Ten 31 Productions; Poet Dumont “Mr. Orange” Combs; Artist Mimo Gordon Riley; Artists Nancy Katz and Mark Liebowitz of Wilmark Studios; Artist Eveline Luppi; and Sculptor Alex Perrine. Also, posters were created by Jacqueline M. Walsh School for the Performing & Visual Arts’ students to celebrate Women's History Month, and murals were created at SHRI Yoga’s new headquarters and at the City’s Payne Park.

For details about PACAC’s Instagram site, PawtucketARTSaGRAM, or to obtain instructions as to how to upload images of your artwork, contact Jay Rosa, Assistant Planning Director at 401-728-0500, Ext. 450, or email jrosa@pawtucketri.com.
