Pawtucket residents encouraged to participate in facilitated stakeholder process on issue critical to the City’s future
City of Pawtucket Mayor Donald R. Grebien today announced a series of public forums to be held by Bryant University’s non-partisan Hassenfeld Institute for Public Leadership as part of a facilitated process to weigh all options related to the City’s current Grotto Avenue waste transfer station, and proposal to build a new state-of-the-art waste transfer facility on Concord Street.
“The future of our waste transfer station is a critical City-wide issue and that’s why we need residents from across Pawtucket to participate in the stakeholder process being facilitated by the respected Hassenfeld Institute,” said Mayor Grebien. “Through a series of public forums engaging residents, neighborhood groups, our business community, environmental experts, and others, the goal is to provide city leaders with information to assist them in making a decision”.
“Fostering informed community dialogue about key public policy issues is at the heart of The Hassenfeld Institute’s mission, and that’s why we are pleased to be holding public forums to engage Pawtucket residents and stakeholders regarding future options for the City’s waste transfer station,” said Gary Sasse, Executive Director of the Hassenfeld Institute for Public Leadership at Bryant University. “Through this facilitated process we will explore the many dimensions of the waste transfer station issue including neighborhood impacts, quality of life, environmental requirements, industry standards, financial impacts, and the delivery of City services.”
Hassenfeld Institute will be holding the first facilitated stakeholder public forum on Thursday, March 1, 2018. This public forum will be held at the Mixed Magic Theatre, 560 Mineral Spring Avenue, Pawtucket, RI 02860 at 5pm.
Recognizing the need to receive additional feedback and to create a public, transparent process to weigh the complex City-wide issues presented by the waste transfer station issue, in January, Mayor Grebien appointed a community stakeholder group to work with the Hassenfeld Institute. Members of the stakeholder group represent Fairlawn residents, Pawtucket neighborhood groups, the City Councils of Pawtucket and Providence, the business community, representatives of Link Environmental, and the City. Stakeholder group members include:
