Pawtucket Announces Additional Resources in Response to Recent Uptick in Activity

The City of Pawtucket and the Pawtucket Police Department are taking additional steps to respond to an uptick in activity in the greater Providence region over the last week. The Police Department announced today that additional resources will be made available in targeted areas across the city and remind everyone that curfew ordinance will be strictly enforced. The Department’s digital systems enable them to analyze trends and identify hotspots to better target their efforts.

“The men and women of the Pawtucket Police Department are working around the clock with the community and our partners at the Institute for the Study and Practice of Nonviolence to keep our city safe,” said Mayor Donald R. Grebien. “I want to reassure the Pawtucket community that our Police Department is on top of this situation and is bringing every resource and partnership to bear. We are going to allocate additional resources in the affected areas and are using some of our new systems to target enforcement. We are doing everything we can to keep our neighborhoods and residents safe,” he continued.

“It is important that we respond to any issue as a community,” said Pawtucket Police Chief Paul King. “We are working with our neighboring Police Departments, our neighborhood groups, and our other partners to get to the bottom of these recent incidents and make sure they do not continue. We believe many of them are related to a select element that we are in the process of fully identifying and addressing,” continued the Chief. “If you see anything out of the ordinary, please don’t hesitate to call the station. The community helps us so much as additional eyes and ears.”

Mary Bray, City Councilor from the 5th District, where just last night an incident took place at Payne Park added, “I think I speak for the entire Council and the Administration when I say we are going to do anything we have to do to make sure that the violence stops. We are not going to tolerate these types of activities in Pawtucket and we are committed to the residents to keep them safe.” Councilor Bray continued, “I want to thank the Pawtucket Police Department for all that they do and are doing to protect our community.”

The Pawtucket Police Department can be reached by phone in non-emergency situations at 401-727-9100. In case of emergency, please call 911. Citizens can also file reports with the Department on its website www.pawtucketpolice.com.
