Pawtucket Announces Major Parking Garage Renovations

Mayor Donald R. Grebien and the Pawtucket Redevelopment Agency announced the selection of Trans Global Construction, LLC, of North Providence, to renovate the downtown parking garage located at the corner of Main Street and Park Place.

The storefronts, which are vacant, will be demolished increasing visibility to the garage from the street level and enhancing safety and security, as well as adding needed parking spaces. The garage will also be painted and new LED light fixtures and emergency lights will be installed.

“This project will not only provide more parking for visitors to our city, but it will create a safer and more attractive space around our restaurants and businesses on Main Street,” said Mayor Donald R. Grebien.

“Creating a safer, more attractive downtown district is an important part of revitalizing our City,” said Pawtucket Redevelopment Agency Chair Roger A. Lemoie. “The PRA is proud to be a part of Pawtucket’s revitalization and will continue to assist the city and local businesses move forward.”

The $223,900 project is being funded in part by a grant from the State, with additional matching funds from the City and the PRA. Work on the garage will begin at the end of July and continue through early November, when it is expected to be complete. Access to the garage will be reduced during construction, and intermittent sidewalk closures will occur during demolition but road closures in the downtown are not expected at this time.
