Pawtucket Partners with Local Organizations on

Recycling and Landfill Waste Reduction Initiatives

Pawtucket - The City of Pawtucket, through its Department of Public Works, continues to focus on quality of life by partnering with organizations on programs and initiatives to help reduce the amount of trash going to the central landfill and saving residents money.

“The City of Pawtucket wants our community to be able to dispose of electronics, clothing and other material easily,” said Pawtucket Mayor Donald R. Grebien. “Partnering with many local organizations allows our residents to dispose of unwanted material while saving money and helping those in need.”

For the past few years, the City has partnered with the Rhode Island Mattress Council to recycle mattresses and box springs for free and Indie Cycle, LLC to dispose of e-waste items on the first Saturday of each month.

Additional services were added at the end of 2020, including partnering with Curbside Textile Recycling, LLC as a way for residents to dispose of gently used cloths. Residents can put out their gently used clothing in yellow bags provided by the vendor that are collected on their recycling day. Bags are available for pick up at the Department of Public Works on 250 Armistice Blvd.

The City also partnered with Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Rhode Island (BBBSRI), a non-profit, for residents to donate clothing, sheets, shoes, textiles, and other cloth items. Items can be dropped off at the Department of Public Works, Jenks Jr High School, the City Hall Parking Lot, Pawtucket Animal Shelter, Slater Park, and the Senior Center.

Most recently, the City has partnered up with Green-Tech Assets, an e-waste collection company located at 1110 Central Ave in Pawtucket. Green-Tech Assets will take air conditioners, televisions (a charge is applied if there are over 10 tv units), computer equipment, printers, toner cartridges, and more. Residents can bring their unwanted e-waste during normal operating hours Monday to Friday 8 AM to 4 PM. More information can be found at https://greentechassets.com/.

Residents with questions on disposal of materials are encouraged to call (401) 728-0500 ext. 233 or email dpw@pawtucketri.com.
